Motorsport’s Test Session at Phakisa
AFRIX Motorsport’s Test Session at Phakisa
4 December 2015
AFRIX Motorsport (AFRIX) briefed Life Racing, a professional UK electronic specialist company and part of AER, to design and
develop a new electronic management system that would replace the previous system and upgrade the cars to bring them inline
with 2016 expectations of a world-class formula.
Life Racing has initiated a two-phase approach, ‘Phase 1’ being a new racing engine management system and ‘Phase 2’ being new bespoke steering wheels.
AFRIX ran the car for three days (2nd, 3rd and 4th December 2015) at the sunny South African Phakisa Freeway circuit near Welkom, 250km south of Johannesburg, with former GBR A1GP and Champ Car driver Dan Clarke and South African single-seater champion Robert Wolk taking turns at the wheel. The installation of ‘Phase 1’ was successful and the test achieved its objectives instantly.
AVON, trading under the Cooper brand, supplied two different compounds for evaluation with both performing beyond expectations. After 100 odd laps there was minimal degradation. The AFRIX Management team was very pleased with the results from the test and is committed to progressing with the commissioning of the cars.
